Dating a Dead Girl
This is an excerpt from a script that I wrote based on the short story of the same name by Sara Powers. The main character, Peter, finds out that a girl named Charlotte he went on a few dates with has died. He has to deal with her strange family in the coming days after he is asked to make a box for her ashes. He ultimately finds himself far more attached to her memory than he initially was.
To contextualize this scene, Peter is procrastinating his work on the box for Charlotte's ashes and has been working on a wooden crane instead, as Charlotte had a tattoo of a crane. Later, Charlotte's edgy and out-of-control sister, Meredith, comes to talk to Peter, and they fight about their relationships with Charlotte.
